Leading with Purpose
Run for organisations by arrangement

For public purpose leaders who wish to advance their skills and capabilities. This program will give participants access to insights from experienced leaders via a collaborative, supportive and practical delivery model.

Delivery Approach

There are two levels of participation - Standard and Gold Standard.

Standard participation requires a two-day intensive workshop participation.

Gold standard also includes a deep dive into participant's leadership style and  reputations. Using an empirical data-driven tool, participants will receive a report and a 1:1 coaching session on how different government audiences (Ministers, peers, teams) perceive your leadership approach. This will include strategies to maximise strengths and manage  risk areas.

Participant Commitment

Standard

  • Two-day intensive session.

Gold Standard

  • Two-day intensive

  • 30-60 minute survey with flexible completion (at a time that suits the participant)

  • 1.5-hour feedback and coaching on leadership style and reputation. This will address strategies to manage how others perceive participants’ strengths and to mitigate derailing behaviours (at a time that suits the participant).

Who is the program for?

This program will support leaders who are facing multiple and complex challenges while concurrently developing as a public purpose leader. It is recommended for those looking to advance their leadership journey and new/acting leaders seeking to make a fast and successful start.

Program Details

The program can be designed to suit your organisation's priorities and interests. An example of a draft overview is provided below.

Day 1: Delivering Public Purpose

Day one will provide a framework for leaders to understand their role in the public purpose sector and define how they can best succeed as leaders.  The program will enable participants to connect with colleagues while engaging with experts in the field of public purpose leadership, including a First Nations perspective.

The day will focus on advice from experts on how to apply tested strategies to maximise leadership success, including considering the role of allies and champions, influencers and decision-makers.

Day 2: Leading with Political Nous

A former Minister and Chief of Staff will take participants behind the curtain of political drivers to provide insights into how to influentially and successfully navigate relationships with Ministers and their offices.   This will include consideration of the role of the media in public policy.

These sessions will be conducted with openness and candour so that participants leave with a greater understanding of the nuance and importance of political nous and the role it can play in being a successful public purpose leader.

Both days will be a mix of presentations, panel discussions and interactive Q&A sessions.

Leading with Purpose was insightful, practical and above all invigorating. What a wonderful opportunity to talk to successful senior leaders who were all so humble, accommodating and generous with their knowledge and insights.
